All CASA volunteers must complete our pre-service training for new volunteers before being assigned to serve on a child’s case. Our pre-service training is an intensive thirty (30) hour training program designed by the National CASA Association to prepare each volunteer to work with children who have been abused or neglected.
Training topics include CASA roles and responsibilities, bonding and attachment, child abuse and neglect, cultural issues, domestic violence, communicating with children, conflict resolution and more. It also includes presentations by local Department of Children’s Services (DCS) caseworkers, social work professionals, and local attorneys as well as the opportunity to observe cases before the local juvenile court.
All classes must be completed before volunteers can graduate and be sworn-in as a CASA advocate.
For more information on our next training, including upcoming dates, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at (931) 381-4733 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
